Principal's Corner...

We are off to a great start to the 2nd semester and 2026! As students returned from Christmas Break, it was good to see their enthusiasm and desire to get back to work.

We started the semester with our 2nd Semester Kick-Off. During the Kick-Off, we reviewed our school theme for this school year: ‘We Are a Family!’ Students also learned about a new traveling trophy that each class has a chance to win, called the Golden Sneaker Award. Classes are nominated for the award for walking quietly in the halls. The Golden Sneaker Award will be given to a new class every two weeks. Students were also made aware of a class competition that requires each grade level to work together to improve their behavior. The grade level that completes the competition first will be recognized.

Students continue to receive P.A.W. (Positive Action Works) notes as they are randomly “caught” being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. As your child brings home a P.A.W. Note, this is a great way to celebrate their achievement and display it in a prominent place in your home! Each classroom is working together to collect
P.A.W. Notes. Once they meet their classroom goal, they will have a classroom reward such as eating in their classroom, wearing pajamas to school, or having a hat day. As a school, we are working together to meet our goal of filling an aquarium with P.A.W. Notes. I anticipate that the aquarium will be filled soon so that we can
enjoy a school-wide celebration of being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible!

During the month of January, students were involved in the Annual Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible poster contest. Early in February, we will be selecting a winner from each grade level that will be framed and displayed for the next year in our main hallway. In addition, several honorable mention posters will also be selected to be displayed in the main hallway during the month of February. Parents, you will want to make it a point to find your child’s poster as all posters will be on display at Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, February 12th.

We look forward to seeing you at Parent-Teacher Conferences. Thank you for your continued support!

Thank you for your continued support of our school activities. Those who follow
our Middle School and High School activities know that our students perform at a
high level and because of their success, large crowds support them. It is our goal to
make each event safe and enjoyable for everyone who attends. As we enter the
winter athletic season, I would ask parents to review the following school district
expectations that will be discussed at school, with your child(ren).

North and South Gym Expectations

1. Students should be seated in the bleachers (both the main level and upper deck
bleachers) with a parent or another adult. When the upper deck bleachers are not
pulled out in the south gym, students are NOT allowed to be on the upper deck.

2. Please limit the number of trips your child makes to the restroom or concession
stand. Students may use the restroom or go to the concessions between quarters,
during halftime of basketball games, and while the teams are warming up to play.

3. Students are to remain seated during time-outs.

4. For safety reasons, students cannot be allowed to play under the bleachers.

5. Students will not be allowed to run, play, or hang out in the high school front
entry area or the Middle School Commons.

THANK YOU in advance for reviewing and supporting these school district
expectations!

GO HUSKIES!

The fifth grade Quiz Bowl team participated in their first competition of the school year in late November. It was an online competition called the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl. We were able to compete right here in our classroom after school. The students worked together to answer 100 questions about various topics. They did an awesome job and placed 3rd out of 54 fifth grade teams and 12th out of 90 fifth and sixth grade teams! We are so proud of them and can’t wait to display their trophy! We just started practicing for our second season and will attend a live competition in Hastings on Tuesday, February 3rd. The students are very excited to compete again!

Valentine Deliveries

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and is a time when we enjoy letting our children know how special they are. Once again if you are planning to give your child a gift, we ask that you give it to them at home or have it delivered to your home.

In the past, students have received flowers, gifts, balloons and/or candy here at school. With the number of items delivered to the school, it became difficult to get everything organized and delivered before dismissal. In addition, these items created problems and safety concerns on the bus. Finally, for many of our students, it was disappointing to them when they didn’t receive something. Valentine deliveries, including those by the
florists, parents, guardians or other individuals will not be accepted throughout our school district for students or staff. Thank you for understanding our concern and supporting this decision.

Fifth Grade DARE Culmination Ceremony

Over the past 14 weeks, our 5th grade students have been involved in the DARE program. Chief Paul Graham and Officer Corey Dvorak have worked with your child teaching them the DARE decision making model to help them make responsible
choices when faced with difficult life decisions. The DARE Culmination Ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 2nd at the Aurora Middle School Theater. Parents are invited to attend. Please enter at the east middle school
commons doors.
